Oct 2023 – Flu Clinic on Nov 8 @ 5pm to 7pm

Flu Shot Clinic

We are pleased to announce that we are holding our annual flu shot clinic on Wednesday, November 8 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Please call the clinic at 604-330-6772 to get yourself and your family signed up today. We do currently have FluMist available for children aged 2-17. There are certain conditions and circumstances that might disqualify a patient from receiving FluMist, please call the clinic if you have any questions or concerns. If this date or time does not work for you, please call the clinic so we can find a time that works for your schedule.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer the COVID-19 vaccine at this time. COVID-19 vaccines are available through your local pharmacies. It is recommended that you get both the flu vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine.

New Patient Portal:

Many thanks to all the patients who have gone ahead and signed up for the new patient portal! As a reminder we are no longer using the My Health Access app, so you will not be able to find Dr. Ali or the clinic there. Dr. Ali reserves some time every day for same-day urgent appointments that can be booked through the portal. We would like to encourage everyone to sign up to the portal before they need it as there is a waiting period for staff to manually approve you before you can book. You can sign up for the portal and access your existing account through the link below. We recommend bookmarking this page!

Stay Safe and Informed

To ensure the safety of all our patients and staff, we encourage you to take a COVID-19 test before visiting our clinic if you are experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms or have been in close contact with a confirmed case. At-home rapid tests are still available for free at your local pharmacy.

The use of masks continues to be an effective way to reduce the spread of COVID-19, especially in indoor and crowded settings. We encourage all patients, staff, and visitors to wear masks while inside the clinic. This measure helps protect everyone and prevents potential transmission of the virus. We have masks available at our clinic if you need one. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our clinic a safe environment for all.

New Patient Waitlist

If you have family or friends local to the South Surrey area who are without a family doctor, you can have them email the clinic to get added to our waitlist for when we acquire a new physician. More details are coming in the new year.

Vaccine Facts

As the autumn leaves fall and winter approaches, it’s time to think about one of the most effective ways to safeguard your health and the health of those around you: the COVID-19 vaccine and the annual flu vaccination.

Why Get Vaccinated?

Flu Protection: Getting the flu vaccine provides essential protection against seasonal influenza. The flu can cause serious illness and, in some cases, lead to hospitalization. By receiving the flu vaccine, you reduce your risk of contracting the flu and its complications.

COVID-19 Protection: The COVID-19 vaccines have proven to be highly effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization, and death caused by the virus. By getting vaccinated against COVID-19, you significantly reduce your risk of experiencing severe symptoms if you do contract the virus.

Combating Both Viruses: With the flu and COVID-19 vaccines, you can minimize your chances of contracting and spreading these contagious illnesses. Protecting yourself also protects those around you, especially individuals who may be more vulnerable to these viruses.

Myth Busting: Common Misconceptions:

“The flu shot gives you the flu.” This is a myth. The flu vaccine contains inactivated viruses, so it cannot give you the flu. It might cause mild side effects, like a sore arm or a low-grade fever, but these are not the flu.

“I’m healthy, so I don’t need it.” Even healthy individuals can get the flu, and they can also transmit it to others. Protecting yourself protects your community.

“I already had COVID-19, so I don’t need the vaccine.” Even if you’ve had COVID-19, vaccination can provide added protection and boost your immunity against future infections and emerging variants.

When to Get Immunized:

Now is the ideal time to get vaccinated against the flu. The COVID-19 vaccine is available and accessible as well through your local pharmacy

Don’t wait! Give us a call at 604-330-6772 or visit our patient portal to schedule your flu vaccination appointment. Remember, a little prevention can go a long way in keeping you and your community flu-free.

Managing COVID-19 at Home

If you or a loved one has tested positive for COVID-19, it’s crucial to follow the right steps to manage the virus at home while keeping yourself and others safe. Here are some key recommendations:

Isolate: If you test positive for COVID-19, isolate yourself from others as much as possible. Stay in a separate room and use a separate bathroom, if available.

Rest and Hydrate: Get plenty of rest and stay well-hydrated. Adequate sleep and fluids can help your body fight the virus.

Over-the-counter Medications: Over-the-counter medications can help manage symptoms. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen can reduce fever and ease discomfort. Cough drops and decongestants may provide relief from respiratory symptoms. Ensure you follow the recommended dosages and consult with your healthcare provider if you have questions.

Monitor Symptoms: Keep an eye on your symptoms. Seek medical attention if your symptoms worsen, especially if you experience severe shortness of breath, high fever, or confusion.

Quarantine Contacts: Inform close contacts about your positive test result so they can take appropriate precautions, including self-isolation and testing.

Follow Healthcare Provider’s Advice: If you have underlying health conditions or are unsure about your symptoms, consult with your healthcare provider for guidance on managing your specific situation.
