April 2023 Newsletter – CKM Clinic Updates
We hope that everyone is enjoying the emergence of Spring with the bulbs; blooms; and bright sunshine. With all those blooms, it is allergy season! Check out this resource (OAS Syndrome) that discusses the interplay with environmental pollens and foods. Also, when it comes to food, it can be challenging to figure out what is a true allergy and what is just an intolerance. Here is a great website from researchers at UBC to help you decide whether you need a referral to an allergist: www.allergycheck.ca. CKM Clinic Updates: As a reminder, as Drs. Fung and Wilson are temporarily sharing the space...
March 2022 – CKM News Update
Dr. Ali still has 2nd year UBC medical students working with her for the month of March. We are excited to help educate the next generation of physicians and appreciate your support with their education! If you prefer not to see or speak to the medical student (for virtual appointments), let us know and we will flag that for your visit. Appointment Updates: BC Family Doctors has released a summary of the expectations between patients and his or her family physician (see here–link to PDF). Please review this and try to adhere to these tenets. Dr. Ali recognizes that health concerns...
February 2022 – CKM News Update
Appointment Updates: Due to the rise in Covid cases, we will no longer be able to accommodate in person visits unless approved prior by Dr. Ali. Unless otherwise approved by Dr. Ali (except for well child exams with immunizations, newborn check ups, pre-natals, Pap smears), all appointments are virtual (via videoconference or telephone). If you require a physical examination, our reception staff or Dr. Ali will advise you how to proceed. In an effort to minimize contact, we ask that the patient attend the in person appointment alone or with only one parent. Please remember: DO NOT come to the clinic if...
Extremely Vulnerable Patients
Covid vaccines are here. Please use this link #1 to book your appointment. Be ready with your health care card and a pen to complete a form at the vaccination site. The vaccine goes into your arm muscle, just like the flu shot, so wear a short sleeved shirt and take off any coats, sweaters, etc when you arrive at the vaccine site so that you are ready for the immunizer. For those who are clinically vulnerable, below is a PDF containing a list of the criteria the Government considers for eligible patients. Here is a link (#2) to learn more....
Happy Holidays!
To give my hard working elves (AKA medical office assistants and manager) a well-deserved break from the crazy pace of setting up a brand new clinic, we will be closed from Dec. 23-27th inclusive. The clinic will re-open Dec. 28th. As always, emails and phone messages will be monitored regularly and urgent medical concerns passed on to myself. All non-urgent matters will be dealt with on Dec. 28th when we re-open. My emergency number is an option on the telephone message--if you do not have a medical emergency or cannot get an answer from 811, please contact me. Finally, I know it...
Covid Precautions!
As our numbers of Covid cases continue to rise in the Fraser Region, I want to keep all of us safe. I work in the hospital, my children attend school, and I live with an elderly parent--all reasons for me to minimize my risk to Covid and minimize spreading it to my patients. All appointments unless approved by myself (Dr. Ali), are virtual (phone or video) until further notice. Many issues can be handled entirely over the phone or video. If I need to see you in person for a procedure or a physical exam, that will be arranged in a...
Topsy Turvey
Wow—what a topsy turvy time. Thank you for your patience throughout this transition. As most of you know, My HealthAccess, the app for online booking and video appointments that is linked to our electronic medical record, has not been working like it should (argh—technology!!!) We have been working with the software company to remedy this, and we hope to have this corrected within the week. In the meantime, continue to email us (md@catalystkinetics.com) or call us to arrange appointments. Many of you have spoken to our new team members already—Mackenzie is my our lead MOA and will be working Mondays and...
